Do you have a hard time getting your kids on board with chores? Have you tried other systems, but they were too complicated or you had to follow your kids around to make sure everything was getting done?
I have totally been there! We have done a ton of different things: chore charts, chore cards, rotations, you name it we’ve probably done it. 😉 The problem I always had was the maintenance of keeping up with whatever system. Most of them were too complicated, not easy to implement, or hard to get everyone on board with. I would remind my kids over and over again, and then just get tried of fighting with them. Truthfully, I would end up stopping and go back to doing everything myself.
I’m so excited, because I finally found it! A simple, easy to use, flexible chore system that has helped us keep our house in shape during the day. And I’m so excited to share this with you! 🙂
Guess what? The only thing you need is a white board to get started! Here’s how we do it…
Either in the morning or after lunch, we write the chores that need to be done that day. If you have a child who is old enough to spell, they can even write the chores up on the board. I love that I can have flexibility with the chores and that things are not set in stone. We all have those days where things change or maybe the floor doesn’t need to be vacuumed like normal, but the bathroom needs an extra wiping down. You can write it to meet the needs for the day for your family.
Next, kiddos sign up for chores! My kids use to dread chore time, now they can’t wait to pick which chore they will get! It’s gotten them more involved in housework and having ownership in carrying out their chores. Most days even, my two older ones just ask me what has to be done, they write it out, and get everyone signed up.
You know what the amazing thing is? I rarely have any more arguing! They know they have to complete it before they get screen time. So expectations are set. And since they picked it there’s no whining because I didn’t pick it, it’s all on them. 🙂
This board is magnetic, so we just keep it on the side of the refrigerator. When they finish their chore, they just erase it. Then we’re able to see what’s left and what’s yet to be done.
We have finally found a chore system that works for our family and that my kiddos love as well! So thankful and hopefully it will help you and your family as well! 🙂
